PROVERBS 23

TWO NUGGETS FROM PROVERBS 23

  1. “Don’t waste your breath on fools, for they will despise the wisest advice.”  Proverbs 23:9 NLT

I struggle with this…and, I’m not really sure what to do about it. But, I’ve come to realize that sometimes, rather than continuing to try to convince…I just need to shut up. Knowing WHEN is the dilemma.  And, yes, some of you have tried — in vain, generally — to give me “guidance” on the matter….🤔🙄😂

God, give me wisdom, please. 🙏

  1. “Listen to your father, who gave you life, and don’t despise your mother when she is old. Get the truth and never sell it; also get wisdom, discipline, and good judgment.”  Proverbs 23:22-23 NLT

And, here’s a word of wisdom for our culture today:  We need to place a much higher value — the highest, really — on TRUTH. Truth is more important than political identity, religious affiliation, cultural trends, or what your favorite news anchor says.

Truth transcends pretty much everything. Truth should shape what our laws are, what our politicians say, what our preachers preach, and what the news media reports…not the other way around.

In these times, standing on the truth, and guarding it, can be a lonely position. But, it’s always been that way. Somebody has to be willing to stand on that wall, and guard the truth. Protect the truth. Value the truth. Speak the truth.

To paraphrase Colonel Nathan R. Jessup, we NEED you on that wall!

And, Somebody else said, “I am the way, the TRUTH, and the life.” (John 14:6

I love you all…and that’s the truth. ❤️🙏

SUNDAY MORNING

It’s 10:30am, Sunday morning, and I’m not at church. 😳

I’m at the Chatham County Aquatic Center in Savannah, Georgia, for the 2019 Southeast Divisional Championship swim meet.

Have you ever been to a swim meet?  It’s close to eternal. Not Heaven, either. Think of the other place….👿 It’s enclosed, with inadequate (in my opinion) ventilation and a pathetic snack bar…hot, humid, smells like chlorine, lousy seating, and lasts ALL. DAY. LONG.  Yesterday, it started at 9am, and we left at 8pm. All things considered, I think I’d rather be at church. Except…

My 15-year-old grandson (and friend) is swimming. Competing.

I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. ❤️

He’s not going to win any medals. Seriously. He’s competing against more experienced swimmers, and, basically, swimming against the clock, competing against his previous best times. In the 200 meter breaststroke, he beat his previous best time by FOURTEEN SECONDS!  🤗🤗  I couldn’t be prouder.

As I watch his parents (my son & daughter-in-law) support, encourage, cheer, and “coach” him on how to improve and get better, I can’t help but think of my dad, aka my pitching/hitting/fielding/base running coach…and it turns me into an emotional pile of goo. 😭

If Dad is watching today, I’m pretty sure he’s proud of all of them. I am.

I’ll go to church next Sunday.

And, I love you all. ❤️🙏
